Imam Fawaz Damra Deported

Former Cleveland mosque leader sent to Qatar.

(Cleveland) - The former leader of Ohio’s largest mosque has been deported to the Palestinian Territories. Imam Fawaz Damra was convicted two and a half years ago of lying to hide his ties to groups the government considers terrorist organizations.


He arrived in Jordan at 4:00 am Friday morning, and then was taken to the Palestinian Territories.Earlier, Damra had agreed to be deported to the Persian Gulf nation of Qatar. There were several nations that agreed to accept him.The 46-year-old was the spiritual leader of the Islamic Center of Cleveland.

He was also convicted of lying on his immigration documents, and that's what led to his deportation.While the deportation order was issued a year ago, it took this long to get everything into place.Tim Counts of Immigration and Customs Enforcement talks to Newsradio WTAM 1100's Darren Toms.
