Russia introduces check of flights as Qaeda threat looms

Showing concern over the activities of Al Qaeda in the south of the country, Russia has introduced the security check of the passengers of the flights arriving here from the militancy-infested Caucasus region.

"Al Qaeda training centres exist around the world, and in southern Russia they are active on the territory of the Chechen Republic and the Republic of Daghestan," Deputy Interior Minister Arkady Yedelev was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

According to him envoys of the international terror network carry out regular inspections of armed groups in the Caucasian republics and supply them with weapons and explosives.

"The enemies had to have an influence on operations", Yedelev said adding this process was"natural as Russia was becoming stronger".

"We know this and are prepared for it,"he underscored.
