Mahir killing: Hunt goes on for suspects

Student Abdullahi Abdinassier, 18, from Newham, east London, was jailed for 40 months after admitting conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and violent disorder on the Saturday night in January 2006 when 18-year-old Mr Osman was hacked to death in Camden High Street.

Abdinassier, 16 at the time, was not seen carrying any weapon or actually physically harming Mr Osman but was a willing party to the mob violence, the court heard. In what prosecutor Brendan Finucane, QC, called a “wave of terror”, up to 40 youths set on Mr Osman in full view of CCTV cameras before trying to escape on a bus that police boarded minutes later.Although 24 were arrested on the bus, several escaped on foot.Old Bailey Judge Stephen Kramer, QC, heard that detectives have high hopes of arresting others who played leading roles in the killing and then fled abroad.

Prosecutors have named Mohammed Sheikh, Ahmed Farah and Mustafa Malin as murder suspects.
