Specific Defense Barred in Padilla Case By CURT ANDERSONAssociated Press Writer
MIAMI (AP) - Jurors who will soon debate the guilt or innocence of Jose Padilla and two other men on terrorism support charges cannot consider whether their actions were justified by Islamic law, a federal judge ruled Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke agreed to a request from prosecutors to instruct the jurors that each of the men can be convicted even if they “may have believed that the conduct was religiously, politically or morally required, or that ultimate good would result.”

A sober show in Berlin offers an introductory treatment — if not a thorough examination — of rising anti-Semitism in Europe and the Middle East since September 11.
When an exhibition on contemporary anti-Semitism opened this month at the Foreign Office in Berlin, Deputy Foreign Minister Gernot Erler said it was “appropriate” that the topic wasn’t squirreled away in a historical museum but on display in the bright atrium of a German ministry.
“Anti-Semitism has sadly not been left where it belongs, in the poison cabinet reserved for the pathogens of hard-to-cure diseases of the past,” he said. “Unfortunately it is a phenomenon of today’s Europe which our foreign policy has to confront as well.”

Killer an Illegal Immigrant

Lots of folks are asking about the accused killer in the Newark execution-style murders of four young students. Yes, he’s here illegally according to media and law enforcement officials and he just pleaded not guilty this morning. More: “Carranza, who spoke through an interpreter, admitted he was not a U.S. citizen and was staying in the country illegally.” And, yes, he has an extensive rap sheet:
Carranza had at least three prior arrests and was facing an aggravated assault charge in a separate case at the time of the killings, Booker said. According to court records obtained by The Star-Ledger of Newark, Carranza was indicted twice this year — in April on aggravated assault and weapons charges; and in July on 31 counts including aggravated sexual assault of a child younger than 13. He was free on bail on the indictments.

    Michigan is becoming the new Massachusetts. Mike Dukakis issued phoney SSN's during the 80's for the same purpose (welfare assistance fraud for illegal aliens).
