IN ISLAM the word most commonly employed for marriage is nikah, which means literally 'sexual intercourse'.
As a legal term it denotes the situation resulting from a particular contract, entered into by a man and a woman, by which sexual intercourse between them becomes legitimate in the eyes of God and society.
The only other mode of legitimizing this sexual relationship is by a man's purchasing a female slave, but this is a complicated discussion that cannot concern us here.

"this is a complicated discussion that connot concern us here." WHAT ?
I believe this is of a great concern since it seems that sexual relations with a captive slave girl is HIGHLY UNNACCEPTABLE IN MODERN TIMES OR ANY OTHER TIMES FOR THIS MATTER!!!
This is Islam 101 though. Fighting, sex, and slavery, it has not changed in 1400 years, nor shall it.
For those wishing for an Islamic reform, wake up. Just because America wants Islam to "reform" (whatever this means) it is not going to happen, and the rest of the world will still continue to be murdered under the chant of "Allahu Akbar" .
Spare me the myth that Islam is peaceful or acceptable. If you are not Islamophobic yet, you are either ignorant or dead.

Thanks for responding. The only thing that I differ with is the idea of "radical Muslims". In the days after September 11th I have dedicated many hours reading the Koran and the Hadiths. It is in my opinion that good Muslims are indeed terrorists, and those Muslims that do not support the Mujahadin are not good Muslims. You texted this "he shows that the majority of Moslems have little sympathy for the Wahhabis and that many openly denouncetheir motivations and goals." Which I can agree with somewhat, but ask yourself this question, "When the (Radical Muslims) take control, who will the (moderate Muslims) take sides with?" The infidel Jew or Christian, or the "Radical" Muslims that would surely cut there head off if they side with the non Muslim? Thanks again for the response.
