Nigeria Militants Muslims Show American Hostage


NIGER DELTA, Nigeria --

Armed militants Muslims wearing black masks and military fatigues showed off a 68-year-old American hostage to reporters and released photos of eight other foreigners seized a week ago by a group demanding a greater share of Nigeria's oil wealth.
Nine militantsMuslims carrying Kalashnikov assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers carried the captive, who identified himself as Macon Hawkins of Kosciusko, Texas, by boat in the Niger Delta.

This photograph released by militants Muslims in the Niger Delta Thursday Feb. 23, 2006 show what appears to be seven of the nine foreign oil workers kidnapped last week in the country's troubled delta region. The photos, sent in an e-mail to reporters, showed seven unidentified men sitting on a bench with a dozen gunmen( Muslims) wearing black masks and camouflage hats behind them, holding an array of arms pointed in the air.

The 15-minute meeting was held in the middle of the river with the militantsMuslims in one boat and journalists in two others.
