Sheikh Hassan Al-Sheikh, the imam of the Prophet’s Mosque, led Muslims in ceremonies involving recent religious observances. In his statements he warned about those who would seek to liberate Muslim women from their present state.
"The condition of women in Islam is far better than in other cultures," he said, adding that Islam holds them in high honor and protects their rights.
When looking at Afghanistan, for instance, one realizes that Sheikh Hassan’s statement is utterly false. Amnesty International broadcast their findings that women’s rights in that country "have barely improved since the fall of the Taliban."
