IRAQ’S FUTURE = MINDSET
J. Grant Swank, Jr.
New Iraq’s future for democracy will depend on a mindset. It has to be a democracy-based mindset.
Yet during the last election, one Iraqi voter said that it was difficult for him to get used to a democracy for he did not know what it was. He had never experienced it. In other words, it was hard for him to define it in real life. So it must be for many Iraqis. All they have known for over two decades is a bloody despotism. Now they are handed a democracy planting opportunity.
But can they bring it off?
They can if they can put in place reliable Iraqi security forces and militia.
They can if they can create a mindset of unity among the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.
They can if they can protect their oil resources.
These three legs must be solidly in place in order to hold up the stool called New Iraq Democracy Future. And in all this, there is needed TIME.
If the Iraqi security forces and militia are not trained fully, they will be overrun by enemy forces—Islamic killers international that want Islam world rule. These Muslim murderers global turn on their own kind; that is, they slaughter Muslims as well as non-Muslims. They hate democracy.
Further, if the Iraqi security forces and militia are not united as one for a New Iraq Democracy, they are open to being bought out by elements intent on ruining the democracy base. If parts of the security forces and militia are willing to be split into factions, then the nation falls for lack of safety.
As to the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds, they must not maintain their individual allegiances more significant than unity for the nation’s freedom-base. If the three main segments deeply rebel against one another on nationally important issues, then there is no hope for a lasting freedom spread in New Iraq.
It is difficult for three powerful segments of the culture to realize that democracy means give and take, working together and managing differences for the welfare of all. Yet that is the mindset that must come about if the nation is to realize its democracy future.
Further, the nation’s security forces and militia, as well as its three major societal segments, must be strong enough to guard the oil resources. Oil is it. Oil is the must. Oil is paramount. However, if that oil apparatus cannot be safely guarded, then there is no economic soundness to the country. Financially it will fall apart.
When Operation Iraqi Freedom was set loose to liberate the people from Saddam Hussein, the free world hardly knew what a Sunni was in comparison to a Shiite. Who know what a Kurd was in comparison to the other two? Some. Not many.
In addition, Islam was called by the naïve a “religion of peace.” As we now know, it is anything but that. Islam, according to the Koran, is a killing cult. The Koran is laden with killing and torture passages leveled against non-Muslims. Yet it was the non-Muslims who sacrificed their lives to set the Muslims free from Hussein.
